1854, the “Light” Brigade charges

Events like this one are why I’d never be the poet laureate of any country.  (Not getting a lot of requests before this anyhow, so I think I’m safe).

In case you’re not up on your history (military or poetic), a Britsh Light Cavalry Brigade at Balaclava during the Crimean War got pretty much wiped out, due to miscommunications.

Later, a bit of a scandal ensued, and the word is Alfred, Lord Tennyson was asked to write a stirring poem to make them into heroes.

He succeeded.
